WHY DO I NEED TEACHER EXEMPLARS?

Teacher exemplars are an important tools for teachers teaching writing and for students learning to write.

They can be used:

  • To highlight key points and writing techniques in mini lessons
  • As a springboard or launch into a discussion on writing expectations with students
  • As a baseline for creating a class writing rubric for OR with students
  • To illustrate the steps in the writing process
  • As a quick reference on a bulletin board or anchor chart that students can refer to while writing to encourage independence

WHY DO MY STUDENTS NEED WRITING ORGANIZERS?

Writing organizer are CRITICAL for students of all ages and they actually make the writing process easier for students to move through.

They are “thought and information organizers” that help students gather ideas and group those ideas in logical ways.

Organizers help keep students on track and on topic.  They are scaffolds that young writers need as they work toward writing mastery.

In this pack I have included two different kinds of organizers, so you can decide which organizer will work best for your students.  You can also choose which organizer aligns best with your purpose for this narrative writing task.
